Algoteka provides programming reference articles that help conveniently find solutions satisfying varying criteria to a variety of different problems. This document governs the terms of your use of this site. We have the right to make changes to this document, and the changes will be effective immediately unless otherwise specified. We will notify our users with a news post on the front page in case of any major changes.
Your rights
All public samples you submit to this site will remain registered as yours regardless of any modifications made to them. We will work towards creating a system where you will be able to earn 60% of all ad revenue from the samples you have submitted, and we will make best efforts to compensate that portion of ad revenue for your samples from before said system gets in place. In order to incentivize us to getting the compensation systems in place we will not use your cut for our benefit, even if we end up unable to compensate you for past revenue from your samples (we might potentially direct it to charity or something similar in that case).
In case you are the owner of code snippets submitted on this site and in case you licensed said snippets in a way that allow posting them on Algoteka, you have the right to be registered as a co-owner of the samples containing your snippets. As a co-owner, you'll receive up to 30% of the revenue from those samples depending on how big portion of said sample they constitute and whether they have had substantial modifications. The original author will receive the remaining part of the 60% cut assigned to sample submitters. The compensation for original authors is not retrospective, they will receive their cut starting from the date they are registered as co-owner.
You will retain ownership and all rights to any private samples you submit to this site. Algoteka has no rights to any of those private samples except to host them and process them for the purpose of providing our service.
Your responsibilities
You must ensure the content you submit on this site doesn't violate any copyrights or licenses and isn't illegal in any other way. You also aren't permitted to generate fake traffic to the content you submit.
In case you violate our terms, we might remove your ownership (and rights to revenue) on said samples, and possibly delete them.
Algoteka and you
Algoteka might make modifications to the samples you submit on this site for the sake of providing a better service for our users. Any modification made to samples you submitted doesn't invalidate your right to revenue through them nor change the percentage of revenue you get.
In case Algoteka becomes aware of any breach of customer data, we will promptly and without undue delay notify the customer of the incident, investigate said incident and take reasonable steps to minimize damage from the incident.
Software licenses
The public code samples on this site are covered by either the MIT License, the 3-Clause BSD License or the Apache 2.0 License, with the Algoteka MIT license being the default if no other license is specified. You aren't allowed to submit code covered by any other licenses (though we might expand the list of licenses we permit down the line). In case your submitted code is already covered by an existing license among the license types we allow, you should provide the copyright and license info in the sample submission page.
All private samples belong to their authors.
Limits on liability
We hold no liability for any harm caused by the use or misuse of any information posted on our site. In case of legal necessity (e.g. infringement of software licenses), we will remove infringing content and provide any information needed to prosecute said infringements, but the liability will be on the users who posted said content.
In case of perceived problematic content, we will cooperate according to our own discretion.
While we will take reasonable measures according to our means in order to protect customer data, we will not be liable for any potential loss, alteration or unauthorized disclosure of said data. By using our service, you implicitly agree that our data protection mechanisms provide satisfy your requirements.
Privacy
Algoteka might use data you provided and data stored in your cookies to provide personalized advertisement. Algoteka will not store any information about you that you don't directly provide except possibly anonymized statistics about how much various Algoteka pages are browsed.
We will not sell any information we might have about you, nor will we share it except in cases of legal necessity.
